There are some issues that should be considered before you put your all into starting your business. There are many aspects to starting a business and it is hard to think of every issue that you will be faced with. Listed below are some of the key issues that should be closely looked at.

- What type of materials will you need? Depending on how the business location is set up you may need shelving to display your product, items to hang promotions/posters, decorative materials such as wallpaper, paint, curtains, etc to make it inviting to your prospective customers. As well, you may need, office furniture (desks, chairs,), stationery, computers/cash registers, and printers/photocopies so that the day to day operations of the business can be done. This list of materials could range from paperclips to vehicles.
- How will you set up your bookkeeping system? There are so many choices; an accountant, do it yourself, computer program, manual, etc. Keeping track of the income and expenses is beneficial because you will see where the money comes in and where it goes out. It may save money disappearing or be needlessly wasted on unimportant things.
- Will you require employees? Often employees are not required when the business begins its operations. However, when business picks up some employees may be necessary to serve the growing number of customers. Also, if you purchased a franchise such as a fast food restaurant for example, you may need employees right away to begin the business operations.
- What will you name the business? A good business name is an effective advertising tool. A business name should be understood by the customers as well as descriptive as to what the business does. Once the name has been chosen and registered, the image which will be on business cards and advertisements should be decided.
- What are the legal issues when starting up a business? Legal issues range from ensuring you have the proper licenses, permits and registrations with the Municipality, Provincial Government and Federal Government to contracts and agreements.
